The theme verse I chose for this magazine is Phillipians 3:14: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” These words really stood out to me as I have been recently been considering what I want for my future. Marriage? Children? More education? Missions work? While all these pursuits are admirable and praise-worthy, it struck me that none of these things should be my ultimate goal in life. In fact, the question shouldn’t even be ‘What do I want for my future?” My ultimate goal in life should be to ‘press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.’ I should want for my future what God wants for my future. Whatever that may be.
I’ll be the first to admit that this is one of the most difficult things for me to do!! I know how I would like my life to go; I have it all planned out just beautifully! But God’s will for me may be something entirely different. And I have to be so completely devoted to serving the Lord and ‘pressing towards that mark’ that I am willing to do whatever He wants. If it’s marriage and family, I’ll be thrilled. If it’s not, He’ll help me be content with something else.
I know I’m not the only young lady who struggles with these problems and questions! And that’s why I felt led to start A Higher Calling. I hope this magazine can bring young ladies together to encourage and exhort each other in their walk with the Lord. I know many of us live in areas where Christian fellowship is rare and hard to come by. Some of us may feel downright lonesome sometimes for a good friend to talk, laugh, and cry with. I pray that you will find many like-minded friends through AHC and that each and every one of you will be blessed, encouraged, and uplifted by each issue.
